There are pieces I reach for without thinking. A blue striped shirt with the cuffs usually rolled. A soft knit that has lost its original shape in the best possible way. Jeans that have finally become mine.

They aren’t necessarily the most interesting things in the wardrobe. But they are the things that let me get on with the day feeling like myself.

Finding the familiar

I’ve started paying more attention to what I actually wear, rather than what I imagine I might wear. The difference is surprisingly revealing. I like clothes that move easily, colors that sit quietly together, and a little texture where it counts.

There is room for something unexpected, too. A beautiful coat. A pair of shoes that changes the mood. But I want the everyday pieces to do most of the work.

Getting dressed can be a small way of feeling at home in yourself.

For now, I’m leaving a little space between the hangers. It makes the things I love easier to see.
