The morning was nothing special. There was a cup of tea going cold, a notebook open to a blank page, and a patch of sunlight moving slowly across the table. I had a list somewhere. A long one, probably. But for a moment, I forgot to look for it.

I’ve been thinking about how easily a day becomes something to get through. One small task gives way to another. We eat standing up, answer a message halfway through a conversation, put off wearing the thing we love until there is a reason.

And then, every so often, something interrupts the rush. A room looks different in the afternoon light. A familiar song comes on. Someone laughs from the next room. Nothing has changed, exactly. We are simply there for it.

There is a kind of richness in giving ordinary things your full attention.

I don’t think a fuller life always asks us to add more. Sometimes it asks us to notice what has been here all along. The good mug. The shirt that feels like you. The friend who remembers how you take your coffee.

A small way back

Lately, I’ve been trying a very modest experiment: leaving a little space in the morning. No grand routine. Just enough time to sit down, open the window, and drink my tea while it’s still warm.

Some mornings it works. Others, of course, it doesn’t. There are errands and deadlines and all the practical things that make up a life. I’m trying to let those belong here too.

That is what I want this journal to hold. Style, home, passing thoughts, the things worth keeping. A life with its edges still showing. A life, in full.
