Sometimes the best thing in the wardrobe is the thing you’ve worn a hundred times. It has softened at the cuffs, learned the shape of your shoulders, and become part of the way you move through a day.
I’m trying to get better at seeing those familiar things with fresh eyes. A cardigan with a scarf instead of a necklace. Jeans with the good shoes. The striped shirt left open over a soft white tee.
A small change of mood
There is a pleasure in putting things together slowly. In finding a combination that feels new without needing anything new. It leaves a little more room for the details: a rolled cuff, the color of a scarf, a ring that has a story.
Familiar doesn’t have to mean ordinary.
I still love the occasional beautiful addition. But the pieces that earn their place are the ones I want to reach for again. That feels like a useful place to begin.
